Saturday August 1st 2009 was the 4th Annual
Picnic in the Park at Torpy Park in Minocqua. The day started out cold with
sprinkles of rain. We were not sure how the day would come out. But little by
little the weather improved and hungry customers came in. When all was said and
done the tally was over $4,500.00 in money raised, and over 500 pounds of food
for the Lakeland Food Pantry.
Because of the generosity of the business’s
that contribute to our project, we are able to direct more funds and food to the
Food Pantry. Since our economy has taken another down turn, and fuel costs
going up, many more folks are struggling, not only our area, the whole country.
Our
local radio station, WMQA provided on air coverage that truly brought in locals
and visitors to our town. T J’s Butcher-Block “brats” were cooked on the grill,
and then bathed in Leinie Red and Vidalia onions that made them the best ever.
A The brats were on buns provided by Save More along
with the chips and cold soda, just the stuff you want at a picnic.
